Ella De Gea Truelove

I was born in France and grew up in British Columbia, Canada. In 2014, I obtained my Bachelors of Fine Arts from Brooks Institute of Photography in Ventura, CA. Since then I have had the pleasure of photographing and photo editing for a variety of platforms such as CBS, Getty Images, TED, and Flytographer, just to name a few. In 2020, I made the move down to sunny San Diego where I rekindled my passion for portrait and wedding photography. I’ve been fortunate to call this place home and thankful I get to work with some wonderful clients, vendors and venues around Southern California.

Inspiration for my photography is rooted in my passion for nature, sunshine and capturing special moments in people’s lives. I focus on events such as weddings, engagements, proposals, portraits, and family sessions. I’m excited to hear from you and create some beautiful images together!

We had a wonderful experience working with Ella for a family photo session in La Jolla. We were visiting from out of town and it easy to set up a time for our session. Ella was very responsive to planning the session with my goal shots. We were a group of 6 - 4 adults and 2 children (ages 3 and 1). Ella was really kind and lovely to work with. Our group actually had fun during the session playing on the beach and enjoying one another! She established great rapport with my 3 year old. We received our gallery in less than one week and absolutely love the images. She captured our whole family so beautifully. When we got the pictures back, my husband texted me "I LOVE THE PICTURES" which is the best response I've seen from him! We would definitely book Ella again if we were local and I encourage others to as well!

Ella was such a pleasure to work with as our engagement and wedding photographer! She was extremely communicative/responsive, kind and warm and made us feel comfortable. Her pricing is reasonable and photos were delivered in a timely manner and are gorgeous! We couldn't recommend her enough!

We truly could not have asked for a better wedding and engagement photographer than Ella! She is so warm and friendly, which made us immediately feel comfortable and at our best. I was worried that I would feel awkward or my smile would be forced, but Ella totally put us at ease, encouraged us, and reassured us that our photos were beautiful. She is very open and excited about the client’s ideas and will give you several options while making professional recommendations, which was so helpful to us. During our wedding, she managed to remember all the specific details and requests we gave her, make everyone feel comfortable, get a huge variety of shots, and let us enjoy our day without being pushy or intrusive (like we have seen at other weddings). She has an amazing eye for lighting, composition and how to position people in a way that will look natural in the photo. We got married several months ago and we still have frequent conversations with our guests about how great of a job Ella did. We highly recommend her anytime you need a photographer!

Ella and I met each other over 15 years ago in St Barth where we often scuba dived together. About 8 years ago we reconnected in Maui where I live now. Over the years she has been my exclusive photographer for my website and social media which features my custom design pearl jewelry. Ella has a discerning eye to capture the essence of the pearls and the beauty of the model. I especially love how she can capture a beautiful model and still have the jewelry be the focal point. Her expertise of lighting in photography is unsurpassed. Ella is professional, friendly and attentive to my requests and concerns. It is always a pleasure to work with her and I highly recommend her. Ella was our first choice for our wedding photographer. There was no doubt that she would have the eye and intuition to capture our special day. My Wife and I wanted the very best for our wedding, and Ella did not disappoint! Ella has a unique and powerful photo style and she is so good at capturing details! I always feel awkward in front of the camera but Ella is a natural at helping you feel comfortable, happy, and allows you to just enjoy the moment! Ella worked seamlessly with our videographer and was able to complement his work and space while still capturing great photos! Ella was fun to work with, responsive, timely, and we had a great experience during all phases of the wedding. My Wife and I are SO happy about all of the photos.
